Durant Industrial Authority trustees agreed at their Jan. 7 meeting to discontinue video livestreaming of regular meetings and to continue recording and publishing audio of meetings for transparency.
The change was raised during preliminary discussion about meeting format and public engagement. Trustees said audio recordings will remain available to the public so meeting content can be reviewed after sessions.
Trustees framed the move as an experiment to encourage more in-person public participation and to change the tone of engagement. One trustee said the intent was to “discourage Facebook lawyers” and invite people who want to discuss authority business to come into meetings in person. Trustees also asked staff to make sure the audio recordings are posted for public access.
The audio-only approach will be tried for upcoming meetings; trustees did not vote on a permanent policy change at this session. Staff indicated they will inform followers and the public about the interim change and confirmed the authority will continue to retain audio records for transparency and accountability.
The authority did not set a firm date to resume video streaming, and trustees asked staff to report back if the experiment affects public engagement.
