Pompano Beach CRA approves facade grant for Pompano Design LLC at 2666 E. Atlantic Blvd.

The Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency on Jan. 21 approved a resolution authorizing officials to execute a façade and business site improvement grant agreement with Pompano Design LLC for the property at 2666 East Atlantic Boulevard.
The grant program, presented by Miss Mulder, CRA project manager, covers 80% of eligible project costs up to a $20,000 maximum per address. Miss Mulder said the project’s eligible cost is around $25,255 and that Pompano Design — which will operate as Pompano Furniture and Design under a five‑year lease — plans exterior work including paint, stucco, decorative paneling, new front windows and doors, and signage. The program permits related exterior items such as adjoining parking, sidewalks and landscaping; security cameras may be included if they are part of the overall façade improvements.
“The program itself… will cover 80% of eligible project cost up to a maximum of 20,000 per address,” Miss Mulder said during her presentation.
Mulder told the board the project was recommended unanimously by the ECRA Advisory Committee on Dec. 12, 2024. Under the grant agreement the tenant must obtain a building permit within six months of the effective date and commence construction within one year; work must be completed no later than 24 months of the effective date (currently calculated as January 2027). Mulder said the tenant is eager to begin and expects the work to be completed sooner.
Commissioners spoke in favor of the grant as a way to enliven the shopping center and to complement nearby improvements. Commissioner Sigerson Eaton said she welcomed the investment and anticipated shoppers would browse the store and visit neighboring businesses. “This is just fantastic to see some business is coming in and enlivening the shopping center,” she said.
Commissioner Perkins asked why the grant agreement text included the CRA office address (a line she read aloud referencing “Florida statue 501, Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard, Pompano Beach, Florida”); Mulder explained that line simply lists the CRA office address in the agreement. Vice Mayor Fornia asked whether similar programs are available elsewhere in the CRA districts; Mulder confirmed the program is also available to eligible businesses within the Northwest CRA boundary on a first‑come, first‑served basis as funds are budgeted each year.
The board voted by roll call: Commissioner Perkins — yes; Commissioner Sigerson Eaton — yes; Commissioner Smith — yes; Vice Chair Bonilla — yes; Chair Harton — yes. The motion carried unanimously.
The record shows the owner listed on the application as Amken Atlantic Square LLC and the tenant as Pompano Furniture and Design, which holds a five‑year lease. Mulder noted that 26 Degrees Brewery, a neighboring tenant, has already started painting so the storefronts will present a cohesive façade once the Pompano Design improvements are complete.
The board did not include additional conditions beyond the standard program requirements. The grant approval allows the parties to execute the agreement and for the applicant to proceed with design and permitting per the program timeline.
The CRA indicated the next ECRA/CRA meeting is scheduled for Feb. 18, 2025, at 1 p.m.; Mulder said she expects the applicant to obtain permits and begin work well before the program deadlines.
