Executive director updates trustees on conferences, training and pending pension legislation

Edge said the Texas fiduciary conference will be held in Austin March 30–April 2 and that National Conference (NCPERS) will be in Denver May 18–20; staff has sent calendar invites and will handle registration and delegations. "The Tech's first conference will be happening, this year in Austin. The dates are March 30 through April 2," Edge said.
He told trustees retirees’ 1099‑R tax forms for the prior year were mailed on time and thanked staff (David Garcia and Emilia Avila) for processing. The board was also told the annual comprehensive financial report (ACFR) audit is nearing completion and staff intends to meet with the mayor and city manager once the ACFR is finalized.
Edge noted the Texas legislature is in session and the executive committee and lobbyists have identified Senate Bill 312 as relevant to the plan; compliance counsel has drafted potential amendments and lobbyists are reviewing them. The executive director said staff is monitoring the bill and will report developments to trustees.
Training and city correspondence
Edge said a city training officer sent an email about five optional courses available through the city’s EP Learners system; the courses are not currently required by the pension ordinance but may qualify for some continuing-education credit. Staff will circulate details and suggested steps to claim credit for any certificates trustees obtain.

Edge asked trustees to notify staff (Mr. Garcia) if they plan to attend conferences. The board had no public-comment signups and adjourned after the reports.
