At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, the City of Delaware Planning Commission re-elected Chairman Simpson as chair and selected Vice Chair Hoffman as vice chair for the next cycle, and approved the commission ction summary from Dec. 4, 2024.
The nomination to retain Chairman Simpson as chair was made from the floor and carried on a roll call vote with Commissioners Stelzer, Cross, Nana, Prowl and Vice Chair Hoffman recorded as voting yes. Commissioners also voted to nominate and confirm Hoffman as vice chair by voice/roll call. The commission approved a motion to excuse Commissioner Stroud; the motion named Mr. Stroud and Mr. Nana but the roll call vote recorded approval. The commission voted to approve the Dec. 4, 2024 motion summary as presented.
The leadership elections set the commission—hair and vice chair for the next meeting cycle. Commissioners discussed whether to postpone elections when attendance is low; one member urged that, if postponed, the commission should act at the Feb. 5 meeting to avoid further delay. Instead, members proceeded with nominations and votes.
Procedural votes recorded in the meeting transcript included a motion by Commissioner Prowl (seconded by Commissioner Stelzer) to excuse Commissioner Stroud (and named Mr. Nana) and a motion by Commissioner Peralta (second) to approve the Dec. 4 minutes. Both motions were approved by roll call. The nomination of Simpson as chair was moved and seconded from the dais and accepted by Simpson. The nomination of Hoffman for vice chair was similarly moved and seconded and approved.
No substantive policy decisions or ordinance votes were taken during these items; the commission moved on after completing leadership elections and approvals to the evening genda.
