Commission tables Parkview at Shoreline final plat pending engineering review of traffic calming

Syracuse — The Syracuse City Planning Commission voted to table final‑plat approval for Parkview at Shoreline phases 5–6 until engineering review addresses traffic‑calming at a southern intersection and the developer provides input.

Planning staff said the final plat otherwise meets code and includes a regional trail connection and native seeding in open areas. Royce (planning staff) described the project as standard R‑3 single‑family development that will complete the south end of the subdivision and noted the trail connection ties into the West Davis Corridor trail.

Commissioners raised a concern that new curb‑extension (traffic‑calming) standards adopted after preliminary plat approval may apply to the southern section of the subdivision. Multiple commissioners suggested adding bulb‑outs or a reduced‑width intersection at the intersection referenced in staff materials to create a gateway and improve pedestrian safety.

Commissioners identified the specific intersection under consideration as the southern end intersection near 2460 West and 3560 South (as discussed in the meeting). Staff and commissioners said they would like input from the city engineer (Brian Blowman) and from the developer, Woodside Homes, on whether the traffic‑calming cross section can be implemented and how it would affect the plat.

A commissioner moved to table the final plat (item 6) pending engineering review for a traffic‑calming condition at the specified southern intersection and to solicit developer feedback. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

Staff said the commission may either condition final plat approval on the traffic‑calming work if the engineering review indicates it is required and feasible, or the developer may return for additional discussion if changes are necessary.
