Visitor raises restroom privacy concerns at high school; board says maintenance addressed issue

Commissioner Debbie Bain addressed the Benton County Board of Education during the visitor portion of the meeting, relaying students concerns about restroom privacy at a local high school.
"They ... said many of the guys' bathrooms, the stalls, don't have any lights on the doors, and they would like to have those replaced and fixed to where they would work," Bain said. She also said some urinals lacked privacy partitions and students asked for partitions.
District leadership responded that the issues are part of ongoing maintenance and student advisory work. The director said the district has a directors' panel of students and maintenance has previously repaired stall doors and related problems; he encouraged the visitor to report concerns to the school principal for follow up.
Board members and staff also said the district takes restroom privacy seriously and will follow up with building principals and maintenance staff to verify and, if needed, correct the conditions reported to the board.
No formal motion or vote resulted from the visitor comment; the board moved on to reminders and closing items.
