Planning commission approves Kids Zone Museum at Truckee River Regional Park
Summary
The Town of Truckee Planning Commission approved a phased development permit for a new Kids Zone Museum at Truckee River Regional Park, including a two-phase building plan, parking and landscaping provisions, and an affordable-housing in-lieu fee calculation.
The Town of Truckee Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve a development permit for a new Kids Zone Museum within the Truckee River Regional Park after a staff presentation and public comment in favor of the project.
Staff presented the proposal as a two-phase, 10,500-square-foot project on a 1.7-acre lease area at the regional park off Riverview Drive. Assistant Planner Lucas Cannell said the final building would include 6,876 square feet of museum space, 847 square feet of retail (a gift shop and grab-and-go café), 374 square feet of offices, 525 square feet of facility space, 1,190 square feet of storage and 688 square feet of other interior space. The site plan shows 30 parking stalls, 17,245 square feet of outdoor play area and about 22,100 square feet of landscaping.
"The applicant is requesting a development permit for the construction of a 10,500 square foot museum located within a 1.7 acre lease area within the Truckee River Regional Park," Cannell said during the staff presentation. He said Phase 1 would be roughly 6,500 square feet with Phase 2 adding about 4,000 square feet; the second-phase area would remain softscape play area until built.
