Manager’s report: Timber Road extension groundbreaking, finance report and library smart lockers announced

Town staff reported several operational updates during the Feb. 3 meeting. Town manager Tracy Jerome directed residents to the online 2024 Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) and said the town continues to maintain a high bond rating. Jerome also said renovations are underway at Tom Hall, including relocation of water billing and customer service functions to the front of the building during construction.

Jerome announced that the Timber Road Extension groundbreaking occurred that morning; the extension will connect to the current Timber Road, improve cross‑town access and help first responders by providing an additional, faster route across town.

Assistant Town Manager Ron Camperchani said upcoming community engagement events include "coffees with cops" (one on Feb. 11 and another later in the month) and a car‑seat check; he urged residents to bring car seats for free installation help. Parks and events staff reported that the town’s Bands, Brews and Barbecue festival received two awards from the North Carolina Association of Festivals and Events and noted the library’s smart lockers have been relocated to Iredell Health System, 653 Bluefield Road, allowing 24/7 pickup for patrons.

Staff also announced a Summer Camp Expo on Feb. 15 at Charles Mack Citizen Center, where the town will present roughly 40 youth programs and camps. The manager’s report concluded with a reminder that services remain available during Tom Hall renovations.
