Mooresville police announced on Jan. 29 that detectives executed a narcotics search warrant at a residence and seized 30.8 grams of powdered fentanyl, 144 pressed fentanyl pills disguised as oxycodone, 40 grams of marijuana and $1,664 in cash. Police also announced an arrest in the case; charges listed in the release include trafficking and possession offenses.
At the Feb. 3 board meeting, town leaders described the seizure and used the update to underscore the local toll of illicit fentanyl. The mayor recounted two young local residents who died after ingesting pills that appeared to be oxycodone but contained fentanyl, and urged the community to remember the victims. "One pill changed it forever," the mayor said, describing a local high-school‑age athlete whose death affected many family members and friends.
The mayor also brought officers forward to commend them for arrests and interventions that, he said, saved lives. Police leaders emphasized that their enforcement focus is on dealers who prey on people with substance-use disorders rather than on people battling addiction. A chief at the meeting described the operation as targeting individuals who traffic drugs and exploit vulnerable people.
Town leaders discussed the seriousness of trafficking-related penalties cited by prosecutors and urged continued support for investigative work. Commissioners offered prayers and condolences to affected families during the public meeting.
