The Nantucket Cultural Council on Monday approved its Sept. 15 meeting minutes and voted to adjourn the public meeting into executive session to review applications from a recently closed grant cycle.
Council support staff Dina Weatherly read a motion asking the council to "adjourn regular session and go into executive session, not to return to the regular meeting in pursuant to MGL chapter 30 a to comply with or act under the authority of any general or special law or federal grant in aid requirements." Jack Bulger moved the motion and Sarah Ellis seconded it. Members recorded affirmative responses by roll call and the council moved into executive session.
The action followed routine business: a motion by Sarah Ellis to accept the Sept. 15 minutes, seconded by Bianca Brown, which passed by roll call. Weatherly noted there were no public commenters on the agenda and that supporting materials were available on the town website. The council scheduled its next open meeting for Nov. 10.
The executive session was taken under the authority the meeting cited as Massachusetts General Laws chapter 30A, which the council said they were invoking to "comply with or act under the authority of any general or special law or federal grant in aid requirements." The council did not disclose details of the grant applications or any decisions made in executive session during the public portion of the meeting.
No members of the public spoke during the public-comment period; Weatherly opened then closed public comment after noting no attendees had indicated a desire to speak.
The meeting was conducted remotely via Zoom and was recorded, Weatherly said. The council did not provide a timetable for when grant-review decisions, if any, would be announced publicly.
