Parks board discusses greenway terminus, drainage and schedules tentative ribbon cutting for Oct. 9

Kosciusko County parks board members discussed construction details and site concerns for the county greenway and tentatively scheduled a ribbon-cutting for Oct. 9, contingent on punch-list work and landscaping being finished.
The board asked that BS Engineering clarify why the western terminus of the greenway appears to extend into a trucking company’s lot on recent drawings. Board members said the earlier plan showed the trail stopping short of the trucking company property; one board member asked staff to have John Nelson of BS Engineering confirm whether the drawing had changed and explain why.
Board members also reported surface water and silt on a newly paved section in front of the West Haven office and raised maintenance questions about sections that remain unlandscaped and could be difficult to mow because of grade differences between driveways and the trail.
Julia Serber of Versus Engineering, who attended in place of John Nelson, said she would take notes and ask Nelson to follow up on the terminus question and the punch-list items before the board’s next meeting.
On scheduling, board members discussed dates after Labor Day and settled on a tentative ribbon-cutting date of Thursday, Oct. 9, with a late-afternoon start around 3:00–3:30 p.m. Several board members said that date would allow contractors time to finish remaining items and give staff time to confirm landscaping and crosswalk work. The board did not adopt a formal motion on the ribbon cutting; members described the Oct. 9 date as tentative and subject to confirmation.
Board members also asked staff to confirm whether property owners and the trucking company were consulted about the terminus alignment and whether any change reflects an owner request or an engineering revision.
The board requested that BS Engineering provide a written update on the terminus location, the drainage/silt issues in front of West Haven, and plans for final landscaping ahead of the next meeting.
