At a presentation on the council dais, Mayor Coleman thanked city employees, public safety personnel and volunteers and said the event "takes a whole lot of people to get that great family event here in our city accomplished." Coleman noted the festival has returned $155,000 to community groups since the event began and then introduced each recipient to receive the event check and a photo opportunity.
Amounts announced for individual groups were: Developed Dance Project, $200; Esco Youth Development, $250; Kiwanis Club of Westland, $300; Friends of the Westland Library, $350; Gateway Family Worship Center, $350; Westland Lions Club, $425; Knights of Columbus, $500; Westland Historical Society, $500; St. John's Episcopal Church, $650; Westland Rotary Club, $750; Norwayne Community Citizens Council, $1,200; Civitan Club of Westland, $1,425; Westland Firefighter Charity Fund, $2,000; Westland Democratic Club, $2,206.01; and Redford Area JC's, $3,200. The mayor gave a grand total of $14,300 for the night.
Councilmembers and the mayor recognized that not every group had a representative in the room; some checks will be delivered later. The presentation concluded with a group photograph.
