Santa Fe ISD defines 10 non-business days for TPIA requests under HB 3033; board approves resolution

The Santa Fe ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously Dec. 16 to adopt a resolution defining district business days for purposes of processing Texas Public Information Act (TPIA) requests in calendar year 2025.

Board member (presenter) Miss Davenport explained that House Bill 3033 requires school districts to identify non-business days for TPIA response timelines within a calendar year. Davenport said state and federal holidays already do not count as business days and that the district may select an additional 10 non-business days for the calendar year.

The board designated the 10 non-business days for 2025 as: three days during spring break, three days during the Thanksgiving break, and four days over the Christmas holiday period. Davenport said the selection was intended to align TPIA response timing with district closures and staff availability.

A motion to adopt the resolution was moved and seconded on the record; the board voted unanimously to approve the resolution. Staff noted that the action applies to TPIA requests submitted Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2025, and that state and federal holidays remain excluded from business-day counts by default.

The board did not establish specific calendar dates in the meeting minutes beyond the described groupings; staff said the chosen non-business days would be applied consistent with the adopted resolution and the district calendar.
