The Kenosha Public Works Committee on Oct. 27 approved a temporary closure of Sixth Avenue for the city’s holiday tree-lighting and granted use of a section of Seventh Avenue to the Alzheimer’s Association for a 2026 event.
The closure request, presented as a request “from City of Kenosha and Lakeshore bid,” asked to close Sixth Avenue from 50 Second Street to 50 Fourth Street on Nov. 28 for the “Light Up City of Kenosha” Christmas tree lighting. Committee members approved the request by voice vote; the transcript did not clearly specify an end date for the closure as read into the record.
Miss Coachman, identified in the meeting as representing the City of Kenosha, described plans for the tree-lighting program: “We are planning a fabulous Christmas tree lighting program this year, adding in a drone show, and also, a small Christmas market.” Dennis Duchine of Visit Kenosha was also listed as present for the item.
The committee also approved a request from the Alzheimer’s Association to use the east side of Seventh Avenue adjacent to Pinoyar Park and to place signs along the Harbor Promenade prior to the event on Sept. 26, 2026. Anne Kessin, listed as representing the Alzheimer’s Association and providing a Kenosha address, was present and offered to answer questions.
Both items passed on routine motions and voice votes; the chair recorded the ayes and stated the motions passed. No public opposition or conditions were recorded in the meeting transcript.
Committee members closed citizen comments at the start of the meeting and handled the two event permits during the consent-style portion of the agenda. The committee’s approvals allow event organizers to proceed with logistics and sign placement subject to any permitting details not specified in the transcript.
