Board of Supervisors reappoints and names members to local authorities and commissions

The Frederick County Board of Supervisors approved multiple appointments and reappointments to county boards and authorities during its Oct. 22 meeting.

The board reappointed Mrs. Carlo to a new four-year term on the Historic Resources Advisory Board (Opekin district), and reappointed Brian Fairbanks to a four-year term on the Frederick County Economic Development Authority. The board also appointed Buck Buckley to a three-year vacancy on the Northwest Community Services Board and named Rahul Patel to the Winchester-Frederick County Tourism Board; the tourism board recommended Patel, who is a local hotel co-owner and manager, according to a supervisor who nominated him.

The appointments were made by motion and passed on voice votes; the record shows the board signaled unanimous consent for each appointment during the meeting.

Several supervisors praised the appointees’ service. “Mr. Fairbanks has been a very important member to this authority and has done an outstanding job,” a supervisor said when moving the reappointment.

No opponents or abstentions were recorded for these appointments at the meeting.

The board also approved an appointment to an unspecified panel when the executive director of the Northwest Community Services Board indicated support for Buckley’s application. Staff said the Northwest board vacancy had no lead representative assigned and the applicant had the board executive director’s support.

The board did not provide additional detail on start dates or specific commission duties during the public portion of the meeting; terms were noted as four years for the Historic Resources and Economic Development Authority seats and three years for the Northwest Community Services Board seat.
