Parks director reports DOT permit for Wishkah River Bridge sign, grants and planting projects

Stacy Barnum, Aberdeen parks director, updated the council Wednesday on multiple parks projects and grant applications.
Barnum said the Department of Transportation has approved the permit for a new Wishkah River Bridge sign; the city is awaiting the final permit and agreement for the mayor’s signature. The department applied for a $50,000 T-Mobile grant for a new picnic shelter and playground border at North Aberdeen Playfield and submitted a $30,000 Grays Harbor Community Foundation request to help fund required match for an artificial turf project at Pioneer Park Field 3.
Barnum also noted a separate $17,000 grant to the Grays Harbor Youth Soccer Club for new goals at the Bishop Athletic Complex and that the parks department planted two Douglas fir "Artemis moon trees" at Sand Bend Park—trees grown from seed that orbited the moon in late 2023.
"The permit was approved from DOT for the new Wishkaw River Bridge sign," Barnum said.
What’s next: Barnum said the city will sign the DOT permit agreement when it is received and will learn in December whether the T-Mobile grant is awarded.
