Building committee readies guaranteed maximum price vote as new high school construction advances

The Nashoba Regional School Committee received an update Oct. 8 from the district's building committee that a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) approval meeting is scheduled for the following Thursday.
Committee members said the GMP aggregates bid packages approved during earlier phases of the construction manager-at-risk process and that approval will allow the project to move forward. The district—s representative said the GMP package will be submitted to the relevant state authority.
Members described visible progress on the site and said contractors expect to place the final concrete slab in November and make the building weather-tight, at which point temporary heating systems will be installed so work can continue through the winter. The building committee also plans a walkthrough of the site for committee members prior to its December meeting; members who wish to attend were asked to notify staff so PPE can be provided.
The building committee update reiterated that an early-trades construction-manager-at-risk delivery enabled construction to start before 100% design completion, a factor that helped the project reach the current stage more quickly than a design–bid–build approach would have allowed.
