Site and costs: The district reported it intends to acquire about 1.3 acres of forest across the street to widen Irishtown Road to four lanes from the entrance of the new school to the neighborhood entrance behind the school. Staff described the overall project as likely to total upwards of $190,000,000. At the School of Technology, staff showed mechanical work tied to a roughly $1,000,000 air-conditioning upgrade and referenced chillers and a nearby solar field.
Perryville field house: Photos showed restroom finishes and a completed field house interior; staff said turf and sod work remained but that the field house appeared close to being ready for student use.
Why it matters: capacity and facilities modernization
Board members framed the new construction as part of long-term facility planning: portables are already in use at some campuses, and the district emphasized that state support for new construction typically follows a demonstration that seats have been redistributed across the district. Directors said the new road widening is intended to support traffic flow as the new school opens.
