Willard Planning Commission recommends codifying Chapter 24 of city code and forwards it to city council

The Willard City Planning Commission voted Feb. 6 to recommend that the Willard City Council codify Chapter 24 of the Willard City Code, a housekeeping action to align the city’s online zoning text with the official code.

The change, described by staff as taking the language currently posted online and making it the formal code so “the numbering was correct and matched,” was presented by Maddie, a Willard City staff member. She told the commission the action is administrative and intended to consolidate and correct cross‑references before later substantive ordinance changes are brought forward.

Maddie said the work was intended to “get what’s online codified and make sure that that was all the numbering was correct and matched,” and that future ordinance changes (for example, updated accessory‑dwelling‑unit square footages) would then be easier to track once the baseline code was formalized.

Resident Diane Baker spoke during public comment in support of codifying the online material, saying the update was “long time coming” and that having the code match online would reduce confusion.

After limited discussion the commission opened the public hearing, heard comments, closed the hearing and then voted on a motion to forward the codification to the City Council for action. The commission chair called for the vote and members responded “Aye”; no opposition was recorded on the audio.

The Planning Commission’s recommendation is advisory; final codification requires a City Council vote. If the council approves the codification and subsequently adopts other pending ordinances, staff said the online code will be updated to reflect those newly adopted changes.

The commission recorded the item in the meeting minutes and will forward the recommendation and hearing record to the City Council for its consideration.
