The Riverton Planning Commission recommended approval on Feb. 13 to rezone a 0.81‑acre parcel at 11968 South Redwood Road from Commercial Neighborhood (CN) to Commercial Gateway (CG).
Staff said the rezone request was brought by applicant Joseph White and would allow uses available in the CG zone that are either conditional or not permitted in the CN zone — specifically including reception centers that had been the subject of a recent table‑of‑uses discussion. The parcel sits adjacent to other commercially zoned properties along Redwood Road, and staff said CN, CG and CPO zoning in that area are compatible with the city’s community‑commercial general plan designation.
White told the commission the intent is to allow a reception center in the building; he and Alice White said they already operate the Wasatch Arts Center (a dance studio) in an adjacent space and want to rezone the middle building to allow receptions. Staff reported receipt of one supportive letter from neighbors and no unresolved concerns.
Commissioner Beck moved to recommend approval of PLZ‑25‑4002 to rezone the parcel to CG Commercial Gateway; Commissioner Cannon seconded. The motion passed unanimously on a voice vote. The matter will proceed to Riverton City Council for final legislative action and any required site‑plan review for the reception‑center use.
