Planning commission forwards favorable recommendation for 19.54‑acre Bridgetown extraction expansion

On Feb. 13, 2025, the Queen Anne's County Planning Commission voted to find the concept plan for a 19.54‑acre expansion of an existing major extraction operation consistent with the county comprehensive plan and forwarded a favorable recommendation to the Board of Appeals.

The applicant, Bridgetown Development Company LLC, proposed expanding the existing mining operation at 1720 Bridgetown Road by 19.54 acres. Staff reported the site comprises two parcels totaling 305.271 acres and that the proposed limits of disturbance (LOD) for the overall operation, including earlier approvals and the new area, total 275.48 acres. The applicant estimates removal of 13,265,090 cubic yards of material over 47.88 years (about 277,056 cubic yards per year) with a finished excavation depth of about 50 to 55 feet.

Commission staff said the expansion would add about 6.4 acres of impervious surface and 2,262 square feet of floor area, that Environmental Health approved the expansion, and that there is no new water or sewer proposed.
