Senator Serino spoke in support of the bill and recounted Specialist Jacob Ashton’s biography: born Jan. 2, 2003, in Willoughby; active in sports; enlisted in the U.S. Army; assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum and later deployed to Iraq; and tragically found murdered in August 2023 while still serving. Serino said dedicating the bridge “is one way in which this chamber can honor him.”
The bill also renames the juvenile diabetes research foundation license plate so that contributions continue to support work to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes, as reflected in the new BreakthroughT1D branding. The clerk recorded 33 ayes and 0 nays; the title was agreed to on the floor.
