LCD forms interpreter ad hoc committee; membership list presented to board

Commissioner Sherry Crosby, chair of the newly formed interpreter ad hoc committee, briefed the Louisiana Commission for the Deaf (LCD) on the committee's purpose and membership.
Crosby said the committee’s goal is to “redefine the objectives, goals, and qualifications, as well as membership criteria for the Interpreting Advisory Committee.” She said LCD staff solicited additional nominations and compiled a list of interested individuals.
Crosby read the proposed ad hoc membership names onto the record: herself as chair; the president of the Louisiana Association for the Deaf; the president of the Louisiana Registry of Interpreters (Leslie Knowles); interpreters Stephanie Nadeau, Annette Porcio, Jennifer Kirkendall Watt, Damien Harfe; one deaf interpreter, Shanna Arsenault; Shelly McAllister; and a parent of a deaf child, Cammy Gaspar. She said the ad hoc committee’s first meeting is to be scheduled.
Ending: Commissioners did not vote on committee membership during the reported discussion; the board will receive the full proposal in January, per Crosby’s statement.
