Valley View project updates, Giving Tree and PorchFest plans highlighted in council public comments

Several community members used the Oct. 7 public-comment period at the Milford City Council meeting to update council and neighbors about Valley View park projects, a recently funded Clean Ohio grant, an upcoming PorchFest and the City of Milford Farmers Market.
Vanessa Hannah, speaking for Valley View, thanked council and city departments for support and said Valley View serves about 190 acres and draws about 20,000 visitors across the year. She outlined ongoing and planned improvements: a new shelter at the South End, completion of an accessible trail and designated gravel parking in place of informal roadside parking, and plans to plant an entrance-lined avenue on Lotaman Lane.
"We're gonna line Lotaman Lane with 8 foot natives all the way down to the parking area," Hannah said, describing a Giving Tree program that allows people to commit to a tree donation in honor or memory of someone.
Hannah also told council the NRAC board approved funding for Valley View's Clean Ohio application on Sept. 25. She said the funded project targets 55 to 60 acres of abandoned agricultural fields infested with invasive plants and is about a $325,000 restoration project to be carried out over two years.
On events, Hannah said PorchFest is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, from noon to 7 p.m., with a noon kickoff by the Milford Eagle marching band at 5 Points Landing Park. She said organizers have about 70 bands and more than 50 porches signed up and encouraged the public to visit oldmilfordporchfest.com for the lineup and map.
Amber Arman, owner of Bunker Hill Bakery and a farmers-market vendor, thanked council and staff for their support of the City of Milford Farmers Market. Arman said she doubled her market income this year and described the market as a place that helps small businesses grow and keeps dollars local.
Council members thanked the speakers and acknowledged the community events and volunteer contributions.

Valley View organizers will continue fundraising and planting work under the Giving Tree program and will begin the Clean Ohio restoration work once scheduling is complete.
