District outlines multi-year technology plan, prioritizes cybersecurity and network upgrades

District technology staff presented an updated multi-year technology plan that identifies cybersecurity, account-management upgrades, network capacity expansion and strategic device management as priorities.
The tech overview, led by Sally (staff member) with Tyler (IT technician) providing operational detail, described four critical priorities through 2029: enhanced cybersecurity (including multi-factor authentication), upgraded account-management systems (to replace an end-of-life Ooma/automation used for account creation), expanded network capacity via hardware upgrades and strategic resource planning to support more devices and systems in classrooms.
Sally said the plan is a working document and includes implementation timelines: 2025–26 focus on presentation technology and network infrastructure; 2026–27 plans for server modernization and communication platforms. Tyler described recent work that upgraded the district firewall, installation of backup batteries to provide about five hours of network capacity during outages, and a bypass system to allow one building to remain online if another loses power.
The presenters also flagged operational capacity: switches and wireless access points are reaching capacity as more security cameras and devices are added. Staff said some network switch upgrades remain to be scheduled and they are coordinating on-site work with partner districts. They also noted potential staffing and resource needs to manage a growing technology portfolio.
Ending: staff invited board questions and recommended ongoing evaluation; they noted a cybersecurity summit Nov. 7 where staff would participate and said communications will continue as the plan moves to implementation.
