External auditors issue clean opinion for Rockville Centre schools; federal single‑audit delayed

External auditors told the Rockville Centre Union Free School District Board of Education that they issued an unmodified (clean) opinion on the district's financial statements and related reports but cannot complete the federal single‑audit until the U.S. Department of Education releases the federal compliance supplement.

The auditor said the district’s general fund experienced a small decrease in fund balance of approximately $251,000 from the prior year but reported no audit findings or internal control deficiencies. “We issued what we call a clean or unmodified opinion on the financial statements as well as the [single‑audit] reports,” the auditor said. The auditor also described the outstanding federal step: “In order to complete the audit, the federal government has to release a document called the compliance supplement… They didn’t release it yet. It’s the latest we have ever seen it.”

The board was told the delay appears administrative and is related to the timing of the federal compliance supplement and a federal government shutdown; the auditors said once the supplement is released they expect to issue the single‑audit report quickly. The auditor thanked district staff for facilitating the process and singled out the business office for its cooperation.

Board members had no substantive objections; the presentation concluded with the auditor answering a question about the federal delay and emphasizing the audit’s clean outcome.

The presentation did not include a vote or formal board action beyond accepting the report. The board was informed that the single‑audit will be issued once the federal compliance supplement is published and outstanding federal procedural steps are complete.
