An applicant seeking to place a downsized set of aircraft garages in the airport's parking expansion area did not receive board approval Jan. 6. The board asked airport staff to meet with the zoning administrator and the applicant to address planning, setback and soils questions before taking further action.
Bill Prather presented a revised layout that he said would reduce the number of garage units and that, in his view, placing units in the parking-expansion area could be financially viable. Tammy read an email from the zoning administrator, who said the proposed location "is not in compliance with the ALP or the AMP" and warned that hangars in that location could affect future parking expansion; she also noted grading and drainage planning would be required.
Board members emphasized the need to coordinate with planning and engineering: they asked Tammy to meet with the zoning administrator and report back. The applicant agreed to provide soils testing if staff wished; the board advised additional soil investigation and coordination with planning prior to a future board decision.
No vote was taken on a lease or relocation; the board's direction was procedural: staff is to meet with planning staff and the applicant and, if warranted, return to the board with options. The board did not commit to any final siting or lease terms at the meeting.
