Foundation update: town attorney to brief TLP Foundation on Wells Fargo transfer; commission asked to nominate foundation representative

Laurel (library director) said the TLP Foundation board meeting next Tuesday will include an update from Christine Newton (town attorney) on the status of transferring funds from Wells Fargo and that the foundation has been discussing term limits for board members.
Laurel told the commission the matter of the Wells Fargo transfer is an “ongoing, never ending story,” and said Newton will provide the foundation’s update at its next meeting. The director said Judge Horn’s foundation term has expired but that, per practice, he may continue serving until a replacement is appointed.
In preparation for the foundation meeting, Newton asked the commission to formally nominate a representative from the commission to serve on the foundation board. Laurel said the commission may re-nominate the current member, Jim, but that the nomination should be on the record and forwarded to the town council for appointment; the director requested the nomination be made at the commission’s next meeting so it can proceed to council in March.
The commission also discussed recent council appointments that affect its membership: the town council has reappointed Adrian, Paul and Scott through Dec. 31, 2028, and appointed Erin Voorhees and Karen Morgan (both identified in the meeting as school librarians with Loudoun County Public Schools) through Dec. 2026. The commission deferred election of its officers until the next meeting so new and returning members can participate.
Laurel said the foundation’s finances have benefited from Friends fundraising; the Friends’ recent annual fundraising and related activities contributed roughly $15,000 annually in recent years and about $18,000 in the most recent cycle, she said. The commission noted that foundation and Friends coordination will continue to be important while the Wells Fargo transfer is finalized.
