Kaufman County Commissioners Court on Oct. 28 approved the treasurer’s monthly and quarterly reports, formalized the court’s votes for two nominees to the Kaufman Central Appraisal District board, authorized a budget line-item transfer and approved $3,162,252.52 in claims and payroll. The court also convened an executive session to discuss a county network security matter and reported only that it would continue negotiating on certain issues affecting the county.
The court accepted minutes from the Oct. 21 regular and emergency meetings and declined to impose a burn ban after recent rain. The court voted to cast its ballots for Bruce Wood and Danny Kirby for the Kaufman Central Appraisal District board; court staff said those votes had already been submitted to the appraisal district and the court made them official during the meeting.
Treasurer Chuck told the court the county ended September with $18,005,000 in its Fund 10 cash balance and held invested balances across local pools and accounts, reporting approximately $8,200,000 in TexPool, $78,500,000 in TexasClass and $40,000,000 in Texas Logic. Chuck said the county’s combined yield across those pools was roughly 4.3 percent. For the July–September quarter, the treasurer reported total interest earnings of $1,142,342.77, including $5,867 in American National Bank accounts, $91,338 in TexPool, $970,105 in TexasClass and $75,030 in Texas Logic.
Auditor staff requested a single line-item transfer for the fiscal year 2026 (FR26) budget; the court approved the transfer on a motion. The auditor later presented claims and payment requests: accounts payable invoices of $961,697.85 and regular payroll of $2,200,554.67 for a total requested payment of $3,162,252.52. The court voted to approve payment.
On agenda item 7 the court voted to enter executive session under Texas Government Code sections 551.0761 and 551.089 to discuss the county’s network security, infrastructure and a security incident. When the court returned to open session, the presiding officer reported that the only decision to disclose was that the court would continue to consider negotiating on certain issues affecting Kaufman County; no further action or details were provided in open session.
Other routine items handled during the meeting included authorizing the treasurer’s reports and approval of the consent agenda items. The court adjourned following approval of claims and a motion to adjourn.
