Council denies Texas Gas Service interim rate adjustment after executive session

After discussion in executive session, El Paso City Council voted to deny Texas Gas Service Company’s requested interim rate adjustment under the Gas Reliability Infrastructure Program (test year 2024) for the West North service area. Mayor Pro Tem Chavez moved the motion to deny; Alternate Mayor Pro Tem Fierro seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Council’s action authorizes the city attorney’s office to take all necessary steps related to the denial, including initiating or responding to litigation, complaints, appeals or administrative or judicial proceedings. City staff read the executive session authority under Texas Government Code sections 551.071 (consultation with attorney), 551.072 (deliberation regarding real property) and 551.087 (economic development negotiations) when the council returned to open session and announced the motion.
