Board updates: Scenic Woods groomed; Nike base and other island trails approach 10 miles

Advisory board members reported progress on multiple trail projects around the island: Scenic Woods (phase 3) is groomed and in informal use though not yet formally opened, Sandy Woods and other trails are being used, and the Nike base trail system was put at about 3 to 3.5 miles with an island-wide total in the 7–10 mile range when combined with other routes.
Members said volunteers and parks staff have been grooming trails; one participant described two full eight-hour days of staff time to groom the system and noted increased effort when fresh snow requires twice‑weekly grooming. The board also discussed updating the town trail map on the town website, citing AllTrails and a town-hosted map that needs to be revised to include newer segments (for example, the Scenic Woods and phase-3 additions).
Concerns raised included motor-vehicle trespass on some routes (noted most frequently at Sandy Woods) and inconsistent signage; board members said they planned to add “no motor vehicles” signs and to continue monitoring. Members also noted local social-media groups and informal trail communities that post trail conditions and thanked staff and volunteers for grooming efforts.
No formal action was taken; the board asked staff to pursue map updates and to coordinate signage to reduce unauthorized motor-vehicle use.
