Contractor reports progress on Highland School project; county manager, inspector say work is on schedule and on budget

The contractor installed 78 helical piers for the middle school addition; a third‑party inspector (WSP) inspected the piers and confirmed they met design torque and intent.
Jones said footings had been excavated and, weather permitting, concrete pours were scheduled the day after the meeting and on the following Monday; steel erection is expected to start in February, with masons mobilizing at the end of the month. A vapor intrusion mitigation system was scheduled to be installed under the slab in the last week of the month so the slab could be poured and vertical work could begin.
Schedule and budget Jones told the board the contractor is ‘‘tracking on schedule’’ and ‘‘tracking on budget,’’ noting allowances are being met or come in under allowance estimates despite weather delays. County staff said they meet with the contractor twice monthly and will continue to provide quarterly updates to the board unless more frequent reporting is requested.
Speakers and oversight County Manager and commissioners praised the contractor's responsiveness and coordination with WSP (third‑party inspector) and the design team. The board and staff said the schedule is tight but achievable given ongoing weather adjustments.
