Members pointed out the board has long monitored recycling, yard-waste and waste-reduction programs and said those items should remain in the 2025 work plan. Jill and others noted staff implemented a county policy to limit glyphosate and that the board should receive periodic briefings on alternatives and implementation progress.
Why it matters: The board was involved in developing the county’s approach to pesticide use and the integrated pest management plan. Regular updates will keep the board apprised of operational trade-offs, staff capacity needs and possible future policy items that could reach the council.
Decisions and next steps: Staff agreed to provide updates to the board, and members suggested the board include a standing agenda item for county-wide environmental initiatives, such as biosolids composting, recycling participation and the integrated pest management plan. Members suggested those updates be scheduled across the year so the board can track progress without concentrating all briefings in one meeting.
