County approves lease extension and rate increase for pager tower site near Bridge convenience center

Craven County commissioners on July 21 approved a renegotiated lease with Gilgirls LLC for a parcel adjacent to the Bridge convenience center that houses a 250-foot communications tower formerly owned by AnswerQuick.
Solid Waste Director Steven Astor told the board the parcel has been under lease for more than 40 years to the company now operating as Gilgirls LLC, which assumed the business after the owner, Author Gil, died last year. County staff reviewed the lease and determined terms need updating prior to an automatic renewal scheduled for July 30, 2025.
Under the renegotiated lease, annual rent will increase from $2,400 to $3,600 and the new lease term will expire June 30, 2028. Astor said the company remains in good standing and has a good working relationship with the county. The board moved, seconded and approved the lease and authorized the county manager to execute documents.
Why it matters: the lease secures continued communications infrastructure on county property and adjusts the annual rent for the parcel.
