Jefferson County adopts $85.7 million 2025–26 budget, sets property tax rates

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners on June 15 adopted the county’s 2025–26 budget of $85,683,125 and set property tax rates after a public hearing in which no members of the public spoke.
Finance Director Cabral Solis told the board the budget before them reflects small appropriation adjustments tied to a public health reorganization and grade increases for deputy district attorneys. Solis said the total budget amount remained the same as the document approved earlier by the budget committee but included internal line-item reassignments within the general fund and other funds.
After opening a public hearing, Solis summarized the changes and said the county had completed required public notices and the budget committee had previously approved the plan. The board made a formal motion to adopt the budget and to impose a permanent property tax rate of $3.565362 per $1,000 of assessed value and a local-option tax rate of $1.69 per $1,000 of assessed value. The motion passed on voice vote; commissioners recorded “aye.”
The finance director said ledger-level line-item detail and the supporting reports from the county’s accounting software will be posted to the county website once the resolution is signed. He invited commissioners to bring ideas for improving the budget process in coming months.
The board closed the hearing after adoption; Solis said staff will work on post-adoption posting and on implementing the small appropriation changes authorized by the board.
