Wasco council approves application for three alternative-fuel vehicle vouchers from air district

Wasco City Council on Feb. 18 authorized city staff to submit an application to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District seeking three vouchers to subsidize the purchase of alternative-fuel vehicles for city administrative use.
The council adopted a resolution authorizing the city manager or designee to complete the application and to execute any resulting grant agreement, budget appropriations and amendments. Staff said the request is for three vouchers worth $20,000 each from the district's alternative fuel vehicle purchase program.
Ms. Lara, presenting the item, said the vehicles would replace older admin cars used for travel, training and conferences and described them as hybrids with gas and electric drive. She told the council the district currently lists certain 2023 models as eligible and staff hopes 2024 models will be on the approved list by the time the application is processed.
Council Member Reina commented that the $20,000 voucher "per vehicle" made the purchase a clear choice, saying the vehicles cost "a little bit over $18,000 to us." Council discussion was brief; Council Member Reina moved to adopt the resolution, Council Member Martinez seconded, and the motion passed by roll call vote with four ayes and Mayor Pro Tem Saldana absent.
The resolution directs staff to complete the application and execute related documents; it does not itself obligate city funds beyond what is listed in the city's adopting documents and contingent agreements.
