Lenoir City Council approved a temporary street closure for work on Northeast Street where it turns into 10th Avenue to allow contractor Clifton Construction to tie in a subdivision water and sewer line.
Project manager Gail Solar (water and sewer staff) told council the contractor discovered an existing water line in the road and now expects to close the street for up to three days rather than the originally anticipated one day. Staff and the contractor said the closure should not block resident access to housing; they plan signage, rerouting guidance and flyers to nearby homes and will notify emergency services, school bus operators, police and fire.
Council approved the closure and asked staff to encourage the contractor to post notices to nearby residents and to coordinate exact closure dates so the public can be informed in advance. Staff said Clifton Construction will place signs ahead of the closure and distribute flyers to houses in the immediate area.
The item was approved on a recorded roll call; staff will notify emergency agencies and the schools once the contractor sets the exact closure dates.
