The council approved a cooperative use contract (using contract 031622AST) with Paradise Greens & Turf Inc. on Oct. 21 authorizing removal of existing sod and installation of synthetic turf at sections of the Florence Aquatic Center for an amount not to exceed $125,527.
Parks & Recreation staff said the project will replace more than 10,000 square feet of natural turf with synthetic surfaces in high-use areas to reduce maintenance, decrease debris that currently clogs pool filtration systems and save water. Staff discussed heat mitigation and product selection for comfort, noting new turf technologies and subsurface cooling/installation techniques; councilors asked for shading and a higher‑pile turf in recreational areas to reduce surface temperatures.
Council approved the contract by motion and voice vote; the clerk recorded that one council member (Neal) was absent during that vote.
