The Punta Gorda City Development Review Committee on Oct. 24, 2025 voted to continue consideration of an initial determination of vested rights for properties located at 297 East Virginia Avenue and 407 Wood Street after the applicant requested more time to meet with staff and the interim city attorney.
Rachel Berry, zoning official for Punta Gorda City, told the committee that applicant Jerry Waxler had requested a continuance to the next meeting so she and the interim city attorney could meet with the applicant; staff had been unable to schedule that meeting in the prior two weeks and the applicant left a voicemail late the previous afternoon asking for the continuance. A committee member moved to postpone the item (file VR-01-2025) and another committee member seconded; the committee voted in favor and continued the item to the next meeting.
The item was recorded on the agenda as an initial determination of vested rights for the two properties; no substantive discussion or decision on the merits of the vested-rights determination occurred because of the continuance. The committee asked staff to coordinate with the applicant and the interim city attorney and to place the item back on a future agenda once that meeting occurs.
