Committee members said the change aligns state code with contemporary investigative terminology and with federal statutes used by internet-crimes units. The bill adds a limited defense for school employees who discover such material during the scope of employment and immediately report it to law enforcement or the Department of Child Services.
Senators moved the amendment and passed the bill by unanimous consent; committee vote was 8–0.
