Appleton Board of Trustees approves budget items, agreements and leadership slate

- Approval to accept and spend a $20,000 Microsoft TechSpark grant and creation of a limited-term, grant-funded part-time library assistant position focused on technology, learning and innovation (item 250965). Motion carried by voice vote. The board was told the position is entirely contingent on grant funding; if the funding ends, the position would end.
- Approval of the 2026 Resource Library Agreement (item 250966) and 2026 service agreement between the Outagamie Waupaca Library System and Appleton Public Library (item 250967). Staff said there were no substantive changes other than updated time frames; motions carried by voice vote. The board was told by staff that by state statute each library system must have a resource library.
- Approval of the report of the nominating committee and election of board officers recommended by that committee (item 250968). The nominating committee reported a unanimous recommendation for the incoming president and vice president; the board approved the slate by voice vote.
- Approval of the Finance Committee report (item 250969). The board approved the Finance Committee's preliminary budget submission, which will be forwarded into the city budget process. Motion carried by voice vote.
Next steps: Board members were told the approved preliminary budget will be submitted to the city; adjustments may occur during the city's budget process (Finance Committee sessions and the city council's Budget Saturday and subsequent public hearing). The limited-term position will begin only after the grant acceptance is finalized and subject to the grant's duration.
