Crestview City Council on June 9 approved Ordinance 2,001 to adjust where tall interstate-oriented commercial signs are permitted near I‑10 and a forthcoming East–West Connector. The measure passed on second reading 4-0 with one member absent.
Staff told the council the amendment extends the current 1,000-foot zone and moves its northern limit to the southern edge of Fallen Heroes Way to accommodate anticipated commercial development around the new connector and interstate interchange. The ordinance adds spacing requirements to limit sign density and a cap on maximum sign height for signs farther from the interstate.
Councilman Hayes asked for clarification about Fallen Heroes Way’s location; staff described it as the new East–West connector behind Crestview Commons linking to the North–South Bypass and the future interstate interchange. A member of the public asked whether the ordinance would have environmental impacts; staff said environmental review will occur during subsequent development review for any project seeking signage under the new standards.
The clerk read the ordinance title into the record. On the motion to adopt Ordinance 2,001 on second reading, council voted 4-0 with one absence.
