York City SD — The school board approved two consent-agenda items on June 25: an online health-education program for health teachers (agenda item 8r) and a behavioral-health program partnership called Ashanti—s Heart (agenda item 8u).
Board members asked for brief clarifications before voting. A district staff member described the first program (8r) as ‘‘an online program that helps our health teachers have extra lessons — videos and things about nutrition and drug and alcohol prevention — and other resources to use with their lessons.’’ The board clarified the program is intended for health teachers as a curricular resource.
Ashanti—s Heart (8u) is a behavioral-health program the district has worked with during its start-up phase. A district official said the program has operated in the community and is moving into its second year of partnership with the district after a planning and licensure process. The official said students are accepted case by case; referrals typically come through the district—s student services teams or from the district office based on school behaviors. The district emphasized eligibility and screening: placements are for students with the clinical indicators needed for that program and are discussed individually with families and student services.
The two items were approved on the consent agenda after members requested clarification. The vote was taken by voice for the consent agenda items and recorded as carried.
What to expect next The district said referrals for Ashanti—s Heart come via the Office of Student Services; families and building student-services teams will meet with program staff to determine fit and needed supports. The online health curriculum will be made available to health teachers as a classroom resource.
