Public improvements staff updated the board on multiple facilities and maintenance items, including a small grant-funded demonstration meadow at the Conservation District, repair of a jail generator, and design work for Bridal Park access.
County public-improvement staff described a demonstration meadow project at the Conservation District funded by a small grant from the Michigan Wildflower Association (WAM). Because of underground utilities, staff used herbicide to kill the existing turf and volunteers from the Conservation District will assist with planting native species; county grounds crew carried out application because they are licensed chemical applicators. Project costs were covered by a modest grant (reported at $1,500'1,800 range) and volunteer time.
Staff said the jail's failed generator has been repaired and the rented temporary generator removed. Maintenance projects funded or prioritized for the coming months include planned capital projects that public-improvement crews are executing, and staff said they are reviewing outside-agency lease agreements for accuracy and obligations.
On Bridal Park, staff said the zoning commission approved a strategic plan and that the county has begun soliciting engineering proposals for design of the West Access from Flanders Road. Public-improvement staff anticipate completing design and engineering this summer, bidding construction in winter and beginning work in spring.
No board action was required; items were presented for information and staff follow-up.
