Mehlville highlights student awards, district programs and summer learning plans

School presentations and student honors: Oakville Elementary Principal Dr. Megan Ochoa presented the OES Science Club and student successes at the Saint Louis Science Fair; Raquel Riddle read individual awards for several students. Rogers Elementary Principal Patrick Kinoy and instructional staff described a LEGO club that served 16 fourth‑ and fifth‑grade students and highlighted BEAR awards for character. Melville High School Principal Jason Lander recognized seniors Ian Perret (National Merit commended and Missouri top‑100 scholar) and Allison Miller (appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy) and highlighted wide participation in extracurriculars including DECA, HOSA, FBLA and Project Lead the Way, which received a distinguished program recognition.
School improvement and enrollment notes: Oakville Elementary reported enrollment of 386 students and told the board the building will host summer school for the first time thanks to Prop S parking‑lot expansion, with over 450 students enrolled in summer sessions districtwide. Rogers reported growth in English‑language development services and staffing additions (a full‑time ELD specialist added three years ago). Melville High School staff reviewed assessment data including algebra benchmarking and EOC trends and said interventions and expanded EOC support sessions serviced dozens of students.
Community and volunteer recognition: Several teachers, aides and volunteers received honors from Kiwanis and local organizations; district mini‑grants awarded by the Mehlville NEA supported classroom projects across multiple schools.
