During the meeting's public comment period on June 3, 2025, a coach with the West Sacramento Soccer Club asked the commission for a year-round dedicated soccer space in the city.
"My name is Hosanna. I'm a coach with West Sacramento Soccer Club," the speaker said, and described coaching in the community since 2016. The coach thanked park staff for field maintenance, singling out "Brandon" by name, and said the club is "a 10-month" program with a competitive roster of about 200 children this year.
The coach said spring scheduling is especially difficult because the club does not have a priority, year-round home field. "My only ask would be why can't we have a dedicated space for soccer all year round in the city?" the coach asked, suggesting Summerfield Park as one possible location that could meet some needs.
The coach also said the group is meeting with parks and recreation staff about relocations related to the Bridal Park reconstruction project and that they will file information requests with the city to obtain usage and demand statistics that the speaker said have not previously been provided.
Chair Rosas thanked the speaker for the comments. Parks staff did not take formal action at the meeting on the request; commissioners and staff indicated field allocation and larger park-planning efforts (including the Arlington Neighborhood Park discussion at the same meeting) are part of ongoing planning and scheduling processes.
No votes or directives on field assignments were recorded during the meeting.
