Christina White, who served in county elections administration and civic-engagement programs, was appointed director of Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces. The mayor said White brings 22 years of public-service experience and leadership of large operations; White told commissioners she had begun in the role and emphasized access to parks, keeping the county's system thriving for current and future generations.
The commission welcomed the appointment. Commissioners praised outgoing Director Maria Nardi for eight years of leadership and asked White to build on the department's achievements.
Jay Fink was presented as director of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department. The mayor said Fink began the prior day after a long career in municipal water and public-works roles, including leadership positions in Miami Beach and Worcester, Mass. Fink underscored his commitment to serving roughly 2.8 million county residents and to carrying forward a multibillion-dollar capital program to modernize water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure. The commission approved the appointment. Fink thanked commissioners and the department's staff for their work.
Why it matters: The Parks and Water & Sewer departments are two of the county's major service arms: parks affect quality of life and community programming across districts, while Water & Sewer manages the county's largest utility and an extensive capital improvement program. Commissioners said they expected both new directors to work closely with the board on district priorities and infrastructure plans.
Vote: The commission approved both appointments by voice vote when the mayor presented them for confirmation at the start of the meeting.
