Commissioners also supported an exception allowing vendors to sell fireworks year-round for permitted special events so event organizers could source product locally rather than traveling out of state.
One commissioner asked staff to clarify storage and licensing rules; county staff said permanent retail/warehouse storage and licensing would be governed by the state fire marshal if the county allowed permanent sales under state law, but the commission's direction to prohibit permanent sales would maintain county-level control. Commissioners asked staff to return with a draft resolution that narrows discharge dates (not sale dates), preserves the county's prohibition on permanent year-round retail sales, and clarifies permit-based procurement for sanctioned public events.
Staff said it will prepare language and bring a resolution back to the commission in a few weeks for formal adoption.
