Work and equipment - Paving and milling: Crews began milling and paving on County Highway D from Highway 50 north to County Truck J B; County Truck Highway A work is complete and open to traffic. - Speed radar signs: Four radar speed signs were installed as part of a traffic calming program to alert drivers to speed and display “slow down” messaging at higher speeds. - Mowing and ditch work: Urban and ditch mowing are underway; state requirements mean some state highway mowing is limited to a once‑annual pass prior to July 4.
Staffing and operations Staff said two mechanics (Jake Raymond and Tony Brucey Kony) started work and two candidates have accepted offers pending pre‑employment screening. Fleet access and maintenance remain a challenge.
Traffic signals and temporary requests Highway staff explained the state rejected a county request to reinstall a temporary traffic signal at 104th and County K that had been used as a detour during reconstruction; the state’s rejection means the intersection will remain a four‑way stop until any permanent signal work occurs. Staff said the state will only install a permanent signal when County K is reconstructed further and the county will perform required work prior to jurisdictional transfer.
Ending: Staff will continue seasonal maintenance, monitor fleet and staffing progress and coordinate with the state on any future signal installations.
