Council lists 1112 Fortieth Street as historic landmark; nomination supported by Preservation Commission

The Sacramento City Council unanimously adopted an ordinance Tuesday to list 1112 Fortieth Street on the Sacramento Register of Historic and Cultural Resources after staff and the Preservation Commission concluded the house retains a high degree of architectural integrity.
Preservation planner Henry Fuse presented the nomination and the historic evaluation prepared for the property owner, which concluded the building is an exemplary local expression of the American Craftsman style and appears eligible under Sacramento City Code criterion 3. Fuse told council the building’s facade, massing and materials remain largely intact, aside from small, compatible additions.
No members of the public registered objection and the Preservation Commission had earlier voted to recommend the listing. Councilmember Pluckettbaum moved the ordinance; council approved it 9‑0.
What’s next
Staff will finalize the ordinance language and record the landmark on the city register. The listing may affect future permits or public works activities affecting the property’s exterior.
